Stupid Gamers.

Honestly, I don't understand the camping mentality. I cannot imagine the release of any comercial item that is sooooooooo amazingly good that the need to have it first drives people to forsaking all other life or responsibilities to wait for in a none-existant line for it. Let alone a gaming console. Especially a first generation sony product.

I won't go into why buying first gen sony products is a sketchy enterprise. There's enough reasons readily available on the net, a quick google search will bring them all to light. What I will touch on, however, is my general distaste for gaming consoles. I don't like 'em. It's a principle thing, really. Why on earth would I want to shell out a couple hundred bucks for a dumbed down, limited scope computer that forces me to deal with two of my most hated enemies: game controlers, and proprietary media. I hate game controllers because I feel they are limiting, awkward, un-ergonomic, and force my thumbs to do things they never wanted to do. Of all the digits on the human hand, someone picked thumbs to do rapid, repetative motions. Brilliant! And the idiotic annoyance of propritary formats should be obvious. And because the media isn't transferable from console to console, you have to buy your consoles based on what games you want to play. Why anyone but the marketing departments of Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft thinks this is a great and wonderful thing must be retarded.

If consoles were judged on their interfaces or their hardware configuration, that'd be fine. You could buy a console that fits your personal tastes. But ultimately that's not what drives console sales. It's what games are releases solely for which console. And I hate that. I hate that I have to own every console (which I don't) to play all the games I want to play. In fact I own no console. I've never owned one. Because I dislike what consoles are, especially when you think about what they could be.

And what's worse is that there are a lot of really awesome games out for consoles that would be perfect on PCs, but they're not. By this I mean, ever single last FPS game that's been released for a console and not your computer. They talk about how we "couldn't have made this game" with out the "power of [insert latest console here]," but I look at the game and think "this could have been a PC game years ago." Bah! Nuts to 'em all.

Though the Wii is the first console who has actually taken steps to be something different. Kudos to Nintendo.

New shinies behind the vote icons.

Welcome to the Comedity. Don't step on the Penguin.
